This figure was created in 2001, with stone work by Denise's late
husband Samuel. The Caribou Man Dancing is a transformation piece, and
that theme is seen in the Caribou face and antlers combined with the
human body of the dancer. The capacity of transformation is essential to
Denise's people and informs much of her work. In the case of this piece,
thorough study of Transformation is important as it has such a striking
pose and such interesting colors that it is certain the wearer will be
answering many questions...
This lovely piece was featured in the
exhibition "Arctic Transformations; the Jewelry of Denise and Samuel
Wallace", which toured some of the finest Native Art museums in the U.S.
from March 2005-early 2008.
