| Description: | This pair of handmade
earrings presage the cast upper elements ultimately used in the
production style of this design (see current examples below). Denise
made these in the late 80's. The cutouts in the silver represent old ivory pictographs of a man and a seal. The ivory faces are a man on one earring and a seal on the other. The ability to transform ( which some gifted individuals were capable of) gave the people insight into the hunting manners of the animals--the seal being one of the most important for its meat, skins and oil. The ability to appease the animals is essential to successful hunting and the survival of the people. |
