| Size: |
4" tall with mask; The dancer is 3½" tall alone, |
| Description:
|
An exciting piece with lots of features. Made in September of 1999, it
is a unique variation ("B") on the fifth ("V") dancer element in the
Wallace's 1997 masterpiece, the Yu'pik Dancer Belt. This was to be the
last belt the Wallaces created.
This figure is a fan dancer, and she wears mask of Amikuk ("a spirit
that lives in the ground"). Her fans actually swivel, her right arm
moves forward on a hinge, and the mask is completely removable to become
a stand-alone pendant.
This lovely piece was featured in the
book "Arctic Transformations; the Jewelry of Denise and Samuel
Wallace" by Lois Sherr Dubin and can be found on its own page (Page
178).
