Title: HUNTER AND "KOKOGIAK": The Ten-Footed Bear

Community: Fairbanks, AK
Description: This piece is a direct interpretation of the illustration on the cover of the book "ALASKAN TEN FOOTED BEAR and other legends",  compiled by Ruth McCorkle and illustrated by Wilbur Walluk (Robt. Seal publisher, 1958). Walluk was an Inupiaq artist from Nome, Alaska and an ancestor of Brian Kulik. A rare copy of this small book will be included with the purchase of this piece. As with most oral traditions, the story of the Kokogiak (or Qupqugiaq) varies a bit; look around the web for some interesting reading.

Description: A very creative piece that is so typical of the work of this artist. The vertical panel is a slab of Blue Whale baleen (where did he get that?) and the Moon is just peaking out above the wolf. By the way, on the base, just by the wolf's feet is a genuine wolf's claw... naturally.
