Yup'ik Dancer I Pin/Pendant by Denise Wallace

Title: Yup'ik Dancer I Pin/Pendant (#3 of 5)
Artist: Denise and Samuel Wallace

Size: 3.6" tall
Materials: Sterling Silver, 14kt Gold, Fossil Walrus Tusk Ivory, Sugilite.
Comments: Completed on December 31, 1996. This piece is one of five limited-edition figures derived from an element in Denise and Samuel Wallace's masterpiece "Yup'ik Dancer Belt", which was first exhibited in 1997. This was the last of the large projects completed by this famous couple and the "Yup'ik Dancer 1" figure was used as the focal point in the belt when worn. In their dances, the Yup'ik use hand fans as shown in this piece, and the delicate, purposeful motions of the dancer can clearly be seen.
