Kayak Hunter by Simeonie Uppik (b.1928); Sanikliuaq, Belcher Islands, Nunavut, Canada
To a seal hunter like this, a kayak ("qajaq") is the most robust part of a weapon system and here you see it all - the kayak itself, paddle, "Toggle-head" spear, seal bladder float, and the prey seral itself. Carved in 2002 (when this famous artist was already 74 years old), this is a very large version of a classic sculpture. Every detail is excellent - it's the best one like this we've seen.
