“Wolf Memories,” by a Caddo-Pawnee artist (made in 1994). This stunning piece tells the story of the wolf and how the lifestyle and patterns of the wolf have changed as humankind move into their hunting grounds and kill them to protect livestock. The humble wolf is born into a world of light, but over time it must shift to live in the darkness of night for its own safety against human opposers. The last conch is a tribute to a full life, from birth to growth to transition to the creation of the next life, to death and finally the spiritual memory of a life fully lived.
This artist clearly has a talent for telling stories. An incredible tribute to the story of human interaction with the wild and how much impact our presence can have, we are so grateful to be a part of helping it find its new home!
